Over the next several years the Regiment will mark the following
historical and ceremonial events:
* 24 May 2014 - The 70th anniversary of the last day of Active Service for 30th
Recce will be commemorated. This will be offered as an event for the WR
Association to plan and coordinate. Details TBC.
* Summer 2014 - City of Windsor Afghan Veterans Dinner. Last year the Windsor
Regiment held the first Afghan Veterans Dinner in the City for veterans from its
unit. In 2014 and subsequent years the Regiment will work with the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch 594 to host an Afghan Veterans Dinner for all veterans
who reside in the Windsor and Essex County area.
* 18 Sep 14 - The first use of tanks on the battlefield was the use of 49
British Mark I tanks at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette (part of the Battle of
the Somme on 15 September 1916. The Windsor R will commemorate this event with a re-dedication of the Cougar monument and a Serving Officer PD session and Dinner.
* 2014 - School of Music and Visual Arts moves into "Old" Armoury. Link to the
community event. Details TBD.
* FY 14/15 - The Windsor R is affiliated with the HMCS Windsor and will work
with the HMCS Windsor to find an appropriate time and activities to commemorate
the affiliation of our two units.
* FY 14/15 - The National Afghanistan War Memorial will be touring major cities
over the next two years. The Windsor Regiment will work with key stakeholders to
plan on having the memorial tour include Windsor. The Windsor Regiment will also
work with key stakeholders to develop a local Afghanistan War Memorial at Dieppe
Park.
* FY 14/15 or 15/16 - DHH has approved the creation of a new Guidon for The
Windsor Regiment. Once constructed and inspected a date will be selected for
presentation in consultation with presenting officials.
* Summer 2015 - The modern Canadian Armoured Corps was created on 13 August 1940
with Major-General (then Colonel) F. F. Worthington as its first colonel-commandant. The RCAC will commemorate this even in the summer of 2015 at CFB Borden and the Windsor Regiment will participate in this event along with other units of the RCAC. We will also commemorate this event
locally with a link to the community event. More details will be available after
the RCAC Conference in October 13. The Regiment will mark the event with a
Freedom of the City Parade.
* Spring to summer of 2015 - The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards as part of their
commemoration of the Battle of Waterloo and their capture of French Imperial
Eagle. RHQ will develop a plan to send a small contingent to visit our Allied
Regiment in the UK. This will be funded by NPF through fundraising working with
the Honoraries, Senate and Easy Sqn.
* October 2016 - The Windsor Regiment will celebrate its 80th Anniversary with a
Reunion. The Anniversary is generally marked each year with respective Officer
and Sr. NCM Mess Diners. Reunion details TBD.
